New to this part of the boards.
I've played FFx-i to death and loved it and just finished Mother 3 recently so I'm hoping my answer is a bit relevant to what your choice would be.

In FFx-i:
-Yes, you already know what to expect, well mostly... Spoilers would be the Dark Aeons and the new special boss that makes Nemesis a joke. Still it's not too hard, just time consuming.
-The expert grid is just a revised version of the sphere grid that actually makes it easier for the playable characters to quickly distiguish their classes. So it makes it a lot harder to mess character jobs than in the original; eg, Auron easily has access to activating his bushido skill and most of the white/black magics are locked until you get level spheres..
-And as you already mentioned (just reiterating), you know what to expect - story wise. It's boy meets girl, girl can't fall in love because she has to die but falls in love anyway, boy dies for girl so that girl and whole world doesn't have to perish, boy is a dream.

In Mother 3:
-You're totally wrong about that "story can't be that amazing because it's on a hand-held console." It's is miles better than any Final Fantasy in my honest opinion, mainly because you're gonna be attached to everyone in the game, or at least know them rather than just your playable characters. Every NPC (well, the ones in Tazmily anyway) has their own stories and you will really get a connection, be it little or a lot. Unlike in other RPGs, you're only need to converse with NPCs would be to buy/sell, side missions and the usual "to continue the plot" option.
-The story is more about family (be it blood related, or ones that you treat as family), at least that's how it struck me. It'll really pull your strings, especially the later parts of the game. So if you rather much prefer "save the world for a girl" and some "fantasy style medieval weaponry is better than guns" RPGs, then this might not fit what you're looking for.
-One thing I really like about the Mother series is that it's not based a medieval fantasy setting nor a futuristic one. It's a modern day RPG (in terms of time line) and while it does have its exaggerations, it really adds to the charm of the game.

tl;dr

FFx-i has newer bosses, newer special boss, better sphere grid, nothing really adds to what FFx already has.
Mother 3 has better story, modern settings hence, no intimate boy-girl relationships that hinder/add to the plot, light hearted yet gut wrenching.

Green Side of a story.

It dont matter whos up or down when trying to imagine two parties struggling to produce-manage to get and distribute any kind of good.

If I, for to be rich had to sell X amount of xango boxes at Y price I would take Z amonut of time depending on my skill, my luck, my perseverance-habito-disciplina, etc, the availability of possibility at that given time...

But if I were in a team, where what I have to do, Is bring someone along, with me (with hisher financial situation understood and strategized upon) with enough skill either to make the product

reach on a constant basis people you know out of their will, of their own intented and conciously organized finance-income.

(PAUSE for later's class: Drive them with: let us get something straight. I am talking about this,... where do you think this is coming from, what do I represent for you, Who Am I for you, What do you think, so far, that Is what Teach, or have thought you.

umads trend line, and my being here... My own trend of life and how I came about. I am not speaking for la umad, I am speaking for myself, There are two things you need to know for when you finish up this stage. You need to be good, and you need to make money. Unless you Imagine a better way In which we could, night to morning, dissapear money and make trade easier without it, simultaneously for the percentaje of people from the 6.77 billion that either manage it or depend on it.

and if that does not help money be distributed fairly, despite your best intentions, then you are not contributing (enough)... it balances out instead of leaning towards better. See?. it is the life paradox.

think about it.

the life paradox, and fate paradigm. there is not such as FATE.

it is mostly, election. Choose to change the paradigm, and stop being afraid as if rules were already set in stone.

ONCE YOU BELIEVE, it is like that, you behave like that.

so your topics have to reflect WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN, and your actions too.

I take for granted English is not the passion of all of you. though it is a quite developed sill in many of you...

What do you want?

What I wanted was good.

What I were able to produce was good but not better practices because the practices were not in my reach.

What I learned, good mediante, is that we have to materialize, through work, the ductil medium through which one can construct many things.

Good is good enough a value. But having excellent values does not mean knowing how to make business, or even what businesses to make. and making business is necessary. negotiating is necessary, administrating is necessary, producing and disributing is necessary.

The business, is to make people have as much money as possible, not less. we harvest it, stream it up so it can rain down on those farther away... while still helpin eachother out with what we are constructing! just by harvesting money... it is actually a simple concept.

To harvest money, to then share it. so then we can harvest something else! it is way better than killing eachother or not but pretending not doing wrong is also good enough. there is not such thing as not doing wrong. to do wrong is not to do as much good as possible.

I sound like an elder, imbued with the magic scent, having reached a zenith. It is not so, The aim is to bring people about.

4.- preparar mis botes, mis macetas de dinero (6 cuentas. Libertad Financiera, Recreación, Ahorro Largo Plazo, Educación, Necesidades Básicas, Donativos) URGENTE

5.- solucionar adeudos (GASTAR CUANDO NO SE TIENE. liquidar esos pasivos que no generan nada, y ahorrar en lugar de gastar, posponer el placer) URGENET

6.- Preparar clase turismo...again. NO OLVIDAR

7.- Comercio, examenes, calificaciones, nueva tarea (consiste en ELLOS eligiendo un tema que les parezca relevante, presentarlo en clase [the presentation is meant to help them redfine, outline key points, to gather up questions to actually answer with the presentation. the initial gatherin up will take place today as homework, tomorrow everyone will bring their topics and their intial sources and we will help us all to narrow down the objectives. Starting from monday three people a day will make a FIVE MINUTE presentation, topic form, to gather up questions to further direct the searching. On friday everyone presents the final draft and a provisional presentation. On monday we have the evaluation, on tuesday we give feed back.

Along those lines, these days I will be giving out more vocabulary and guiding them to the sources, and giving more guides to argument and construct ideas.  . URGENTE
